About Us

Testing and Evaluation Services

Testing and Evaluation provides the UW-Madison campus and the University of Wisconsin System with services related to assessment and evaluation. Our office provides scanning services, scoring and statistical analysis of exams and evaluations, and administration of local and national standardized exams. Staff within the department conduct nationally recognized research on test-related topics and have an extensive record of publications in peer-reviewed journals.

UW Center for Placement Testing

The Center for Placement Testing is administered by Testing and Evaluation Services. The Center leads committees of faculty and instructional staff from various UW System campuses in developing placement tests which are used system-wide for incoming freshmen. Staff from Testing and Evaluation conduct studies to support the development of these tests and effectively use the results to place freshman into appropriate levels in math, English and foreign language courses.

Office Hours:

Testing and Evaluation will be open, responding to phone and email inquiries during regular business hours, Monday - Friday, 7:45am - 4:30pm.

In-person front desk hours: Monday - Friday, 7:45am - 2:30pm

We will have limited in-person hours for consultation and picking up or dropping off materials in Room 373. Physical distancing measures will be in place. Exams dropped off after 2:30pm may use the drop station across the hall in Room 376. (see details below)

Drop station hours:

A drop station is available in Room 376 any time the Educational Sciences building is open. If the batch of forms you are submitting is too large to fit in the drop station box, we recommend returning during in-person front desk hours. Please email or call us if you have questions about using the drop station.

Scannable forms:

You may deliver scannable forms to us in any of the following ways: 1- Mail or Campus mail, 2- Drop off during in-person hours, 3- Use drop station in Room 376 any time the front office is closed but the Educational Sciences building is open.

Jobs will be checked in once per day (during in-person office hours), and processed the following business day. Thank you for your patience during these unusual circumstances.

Proctored exams:

If you are using the drop station to deliver exams to be proctored in the Testing Lab, please deliver a minimum of 2 business days before the scheduled exam to allow for the physical forms to be checked in and deliverd to the lab in time for the appointment.

More information about updates to our procedures and services may be found on the web pages for those services, but please feel free to call or email us if you have any questions.
We will be happy to assist you!
