Math Requirements by Major

UW - Eau Claire Math Requirements

UW-Eau Claire has a university-wide Mathematics/Statistics competency requirement for graduation. A grade of C or better is required in a mathematics or statistics course of at least three credits which is determined by each of the several colleges (Arts and Sciences, Business, Professional Studies). The lowest level course meeting this requirement may vary within a college for different majors. Some degrees also have additional mathematics requirements beyond the college competency requirement. The appropriate mathematics course with which to begin is dependent on your placement test results and high school record.

The lowest level mathematics courses you would need to take to satisfy the requirements for various programs at UW-Eau Claire are listed on the following page. Refer to the Mathematics requirements and then to your mathematics skill level identified above. That should give you an idea of how much more mathematics preparation will be necessary to complete the mathematics requirement for a major in the field(s) you identified. The competency requirement for some programs may be satisfied by achieving a sufficiently high score on the UW System Mathematics Placement Test which you must take prior to registering for your first mathematics course.

Note that in the College of Arts and Sciences, most departments offer a Bachelor of Arts degree (BA) and a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree. There are college-wide competency requirements for these degrees.

If you have additional questions regarding mathematics requirements at UW-Eau Claire, please call the Mathematics Department at (715) 836-3301 or write to the Mathematics Department Chair, Mathematics Department, UW-Eau Claire, Eau Claire, WI 54702-4004.
